New barbering program ready for students
Metro Tech launches new barbering program in a new space
OKLAHOMA CITY – Barbering is a new career pathway accepting enrollment applications now at Metro Tech. The evening full-time training is available for individuals with no experience, and short-term training for those wishing to expand their cosmetology skills. The programs start January 2021.
Superintendent Aaron Collins said, “We are grateful to our community for supporting the 2019 bond funding that has enabled Metro Tech to expand growing career programs like Barbering and Cosmetology. The brand new facility increases the number of students we serve interested in this career field.”
Metro Tech’s Chief Officer of Instructional Excellence Randa Pirrong said, “Barbering is a re-emerging industry and we are committed to producing highly skilled graduates who become licensed professionals.”
The Barbering and Cosmetology program is located at the Springlake Campus and offers state-of-the-art equipment in a beautiful new setting.
Students will learn cutting-edge clipper artistry, straight-edge razor shaving, and over-all styling taught by our professionally trained instructor. Instruction is also taught on topics ranging from general anatomy, business industry relations, and front-end salon management and merchandising techniques.
At completion of the program, a student will be prepared for successful employment as a barber, and eligible for the exam to obtain their Oklahoma Barbering License from the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering.
