Metro Technology Centers and OSU-OKC recently awarded the inaugural Dr. Dennis Portis III Scholarship to Metro Tech graduate Nestor Bravo, who will attend OSU-OKC in the fall of 2018. The $1,000 OSU-OKC tuition waiver will be distributed in $500 increments during the fall and spring semesters.
Teresa Francisco, Metro Tech college connection coordinator, said the scholarship honors a man who inspired students to reach for success.
“Dr. Portis had a great impact on the students he served, and was a man of excellence in character and integrity. He displayed great love for his family, students, career and community and his legacy lives on through this scholarship,” Ms. Francisco said.
OSU-OKC President Dr. Brad Williams said the partnership between Metro Tech and OSU-OKC creates a pathway for continued student success.
“We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Metro Tech and honored to offer a scholarship that memorializes the extraordinary work and life of Dr. Portis. This partnership creates a pathway to college and a bright future for hundreds of students that Dr. Portis dedicated his life and career to helping succeed,” he said.
