Financial Aid Frequently Asked Questions

Financial Aid

Financial aid can be an overwhelming and confusing topic for students and their parents. We caught up with Metro Tech Director of Financial Aid Rosalind Martin to answer questions her office receives most often, and to provide you with resources to additional information.

What is financial aid?

Financial aid is money offered by the federal government to help students pay for education expenses at eligible colleges, technical schools and career technology schools (that's Metro Tech!)

Which financial aid programs are available to Metro Tech students?

Federal Pell Grants are awarded to undergraduate students who have not yet earned a bachelor's degree. Students can receive a Federal Pell Grant for up to 12 semesters, and this money does not have to be paid back. For more information about Federal Pell Grants, click HERE.

Low-interest student loans are available for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education at a four-year college, community college or career and technology school (that's Metro Tech!) You can read about several types of loans by clicking HERE

Who can receive financial aid?

Any Metro Tech student who meets eligibility requirements can receive some type of financial aid, regardless of age or family income. A few eligibility requirements include:

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen
  • You must have a valid Social Security number
  • You must be accepted or enrolled as a regular student in an eligible full-time Metro Tech career major

How does a prospective or current Metro Tech student apply for financial aid?

The first step is for students to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (also known as FAFSA). Filling out the FAFSA is easy and FREE! To access the application, click HERE. The FAFSA will ask for current year tax information. If you need assistance filling out the FAFSA, please call the Metro Tech Financial Aid Office at (405) 595-4457 or (405) 595-4457 or (405) 595-5546. We are here to help you!

When should the student apply for financial aid?

If you are planning to enroll at Metro Tech in March 2016, you should complete the 2015-16 FAFSA as soon as possible. To apply for financial aid for the 2016-17 school year, the deadline is June 30, 2017. To learn more about deadlines, click HERE

How much financial aid will a student receive?

The Metro Tech Financial Aid Office will determine how much financial aid you are eligible for once the student submits a completed FAFSA application. Even if you think you can't qualify, we encourage you to fill out the FAFSA by clicking HERE

Are there Metro Tech programs that don't qualify for financial aid?

Yes, there are. Students enrolled in full-time programs that are less than 600 clock hours in length are not eligible to receive financial aid. Additionally, Metro Tech's Adult & Career Development programs offered at our Economic Development Center are not eligible for financial assistance. To view Metro Tech's full-time programs, click HERE. Click the program of interest and scroll to the bottom left to see if financial aid is available.
